    Newton Boys Lacrosse Team Wins Two This Week: High Point and North Warren

    NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School boys lacrosse team won the preliminary round of the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex tournament 15-1 against 15th-seeded North Warren on Saturday.

    Newton scored 12 goals in the first half of the game and then scored three more in the third quarter. North Warren scored their only goal in the fourth quarter.

    Brenden Lynch led the Braves with six goals. Dylan Cotter put three in the net.

    Matt Ellsworth and Gannon Hawryluk each scored twice. Damien Thoresen and Max Faye each put one in the back of the net for the Braves.

    Offensively, the Braves took 28 shots on the Patriot’s keeper. Newton played two goalies. CJ Wojtach started and had four saves and Knowledge Jones, had three saves.

    Newton also took on High Point away this week on Thursday, April 25 and swept them 12-1. Newton had 36 shots on goal.

    Lynch was the lead scorer against High Point as well with six goals. Faye had three, Ellsworth had two goals and Hawryluk had one. Wojtach had six saves.

    The Newton High School Lacrosse team moved their overall record to 6-3 and their NJILL-Pooley division record to 3-2. The Braves started the H/W/S tournament eight-seed and will host nine-seed North Hunterdon on April 30.
