    Local military base adding new multipurpose machine gun range

    NEWTON FALLS, Ohio (WKBN) – A first-of-its-kind gun range is opening next week at Camp James A. Garfield Joint Military Training Center.

    The multipurpose machine gun range will be used to train and test soldiers on marksmanship skills.

    The range can support both light and heavy machine gun operations. Weapons can be fired from vehicle-mounted or ground-based configurations, according to a news release from the Ohio Adjunct General’s Department.

    Maj. Gen. John C. Harris Jr., Ohio adjutant general; and Brig. Gen. Matthew S. Woodruff, Ohio
    assistant adjutant general for the Army; will be participating in the ceremonial first shot event
    May 7 at the new range.
