Man accused of trying to kidnap 12-year-old at Joliet Township bus stop

WILL COUNTY, Ill. — A 20-year-old man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly trying to abduct a 12-year-old girl from a Joliet Township bus stop.

Eric Fleming, of Joliet Township, is facing charged of attempted kidnapping, attempted child abduction and battery after officers responded to the area of Luna Road and Dallas Place Tuesday morning just before 8 a.m.

Police believe a 12-year-old girl was standing at a bus stop for the first day of summer school when an Fleming allegedly grabbed her and attempted to remove her from the area.

The girl was able to free herself by slipping out of the hoodie she was wearing, according to police. The girl was able to give a “vivid” description to police after she got home and Fleming was taken into custody walking on foot.

Police said the girl was unharmed and made a new friend — a comfort dog named Chase.
