(WOWK) — A heat wave is coming to the area starting Thursday (June 13, 2024) and it should linger well into the following week.

Temperatures are expected to hop into the upper 80s for a few days then back into the mid 90s a few days starting Sunday.

Many people subscribe to the traditional idea of a heat wave, meaning 3 days or more above 90 degrees for highs.

However the stretch of days starting Thursday would seem to qualify as a heat wave under the first definition listed in the AMS Glossary . Normal highs would be 82 degrees for this time of June.

It’s important to acclimate and not overdo it in the heat once it hits. Stay hydrated. Don’t work to the point of overexertion. Monitor for any of these signs and take the appropriate steps if you sense someone is in danger of heat illness.
