HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office says that a pedestrian suffered critical injuries in a collision on the US 60 bypass late Monday night.

Ther sheriff’s office states patrol units responded to the scene just before midnight at the Frederica Street exit ramp. Arriving deputies saw a 2016 Toyota with heavy front end damage and an unresponsive man lying on the shoulder of the road.

Deputies used lifesaving medical intervention to control bleeding and performed CPR until Fire/Rescue and Ambulance units could arrive. The person was taken to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital.

The driver of the Toyota stated he was exiting the bypass when someone on the side of the road jumped in front of his car without warning. Deputies say the Toyota was going at about 50 MPH at the time of the collision, leaving the driver unable to avoid hitting the subject.

The sheriff’s office says it appeared as if the person intentionally stepped in front of the Toyota. Officials also concluded based on the factors and statements, it appeared the driver of the Toyota did nothing wrong. The investigation is ongoing.
