ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A beloved barbeque spot in Albuquerque is set to close its doors for good at the end of this month. Mr. Powdrell’s Barbeque House on Fourth Street will be open through its final day on Saturday, June 29, the restaurant announced on social media.

The barbeque spot has been an Albuquerque staple since its opening in 1984. In the closure announcement, Mr. Powdrell’s Barbecue House cited the rising cost of supplies, utilities, and labor as the primary reason behind the closure. The announcement of the end of operations on Fourth Street comes just months after the closure of the restaurant’s Central Avenue location .

The restaurant’s manager, Mike Powdrell, said, “Our restaurant, over time, grew to become a popular eating space for many families and a very unique and colorful diversity of patrons. It became a ‘Testament’ to its founders, Pete & Catherine and Family.”

In honor of the restaurant’s legacy, Mr. Powdrell’s Barbecue House is hosting a closing celebration on Thursday, July 4, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 5209 Fourth Street. For those mourning the loss of the barbecue spot, there may still be hope; Mr. Powdrell’s Barbecue House said, “The Company is exploring alternative avenues to continue to distribute Mr. Powdrell’s Original Barbeque, including catering, special events, and wholesale distribution of their famous barbeque sauce.”
