    Severe thunderstorm warning was issued for some east central, eastern Virginia counties

    NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for several counties in east central Virginia, as well as a county in eastern Virginia.

    The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for northwestern Northumberland County, central Richmond County and south central Westmoreland County until 3:45 p.m. on Sunday, May 26.

    According to the service, at 3:03 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located over Haynesville, or near Callao, and was nearly stationary.

    Hazards included 60 mph winds and penny-size hail, with possible damage to trees and powerlines.

    Other locations impacted by the severe thunderstorm included the following:

    • Wellford
    • Downing
    • Threeway
    • Village
    • Kennard
    • Gibeon
    • Mulch
    • Emmerton
    • Oldhams
    • Kremlin

    The service recommended those located in the areas where the severe thunderstorm warning was issued to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.
