While updating fans on her mental health as of late, Lizzo says she’s overcome a “dark cloud” of depression, becoming “the happiest” she’s been in 10 months, but she’s no longer as carefree as she used to be.

On Tuesday (May 21), four-time Grammy Award-winning artist Lizzo shared a raw photo of herself on Instagram , posing without any makeup, no wig or extensions, and dressed in a black t-shirt and short black briefs. Accompanying the selfie of Lizzo standing in a bathroom, she told her fans how she’s been dealing mentally after being sued last year by her former dancers for sexual harassment and allegedly creating a hostile work environment.

The “Juice” singer-rapper wrote, “I’m the happiest I’ve been in 10 months. The strange thing about depression is you don’t know you’re in it until you’re out of it. I’m definitely not all the way as carefree as I used to be… But the dark cloud that followed me every day is finally clearing up. My smile reaches my eyes again and that’s a win.”

Lizzo also teased new music as her fourth LP, ‘ Special ,’ was released in 2022. She said, “I thought my album was finished.. but I gotta get some of these good vibes off in a banger real quick. Thanks for your patience .”

As mentioned, Lizzo’s mental health and depression update post arrives nearly a year after she and her company, Big Grrrl Big Touring Inc. were sued by three of her former dancers, Arianna Davis , Crystal Williams , and Noelle Rodriguez . The women jointly accused their boss of sexual and racial harassment, fat-shaming, and creating a hostile work environment.

Lizzo has vehemently denied all of the allegations and even attempted to have the lawsuit dismissed in December 2023, however, to no avail as the case is set to head to trial. Although, some of the initial claims made against Lizzo have been dismissed by the judge.

One month later, Lizzo again made headlines in a major way after sharing a cryptic message on Instagram, which left fans worried about her wanting to quit music over constant bullying and “being dragged by everyone in [her] life and on the internet.”

However, Lizzo hopped back on Instagram and clarified her statement, claiming she wasn’t referring to quitting music, just taking a break from feeding into negative narratives and social media for a while. She said, “What I’m not going to quit is the joy of my life, which is making music and connecting to people because I know I’m not alone.”
