GREENSVILLE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A 15-year-old juvenile from Brunswick County was taken into custody Thursday in connection to threats made against Greensville County High School in early May.

On Thursday, May 23, the Greensville County Sheriff’s Office announced in a press release that an unidentified teenager is being held at a juvenile detention center over allegations that they threatened Greensville County High School on May 3.

According to the sheriff’s office, a threat was called into the school that day from a Text Now number. The school was immediately placed on lockdown — along with every other Greensville County school — with the assistance of the sheriff’s office, the Emporia Police Department and Virginia State Police.

On the day of the incident, the school division put out two press releases . In those releases, the explanation given as to why the division-wide lockdowns were prompted is that there was a “potential safety threat.”

According to the sheriff’s office, an investigation into this incident was quickly launched by law enforcement. Following multiple search warrants, the call was ultimately traced back to the device it came from. Juvenile petitions and a detention order were then obtained for the 15-year-old.

The teenager will remain in custody pending their court date.

“I would encourage all parents to please speak with your children, and let them know the severity of incidents such as these,” a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office said. “Crimes such as these are taken very [seriously,] due to recent school incidents throughout the United States.”

This May 3 incident was one of three separate incidents that took place at Greensville County High School in less than a week. The other two involved two students who reportedly took illegal edible drugs on May 2 and ammunition found in the bus loop on May 7 .
