Two people dead after pick-up truck crashes, overturns in Essex County

ESSEX COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Two people are dead following a pick-up truck crash that occurred in Essex County Wednesday afternoon.

At around 2:42 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, Virginia State Police deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash in the 5300 block of Tidewater Trail that resulted in multiple deaths.

Police said a 2003 Dodge pick-up truck pulling a small trailer ran off the road to the left and overturned, ejecting three passengers and entrapping the driver. Two of the three passengers died due to their injuries on the scene.

The third passenger and the driver were flown by MedFlight to a local hospital. The driver was treated and released from the hospital, while the third passenger remains in serious condition.

Deputies are working with the Medical Examiner’s Office to identify the passengers killed and to notify next of kin.

Virginia State Police continue to investigate, and charges are pending.
