SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Woodbury County is one of seven counties in Iowa that has filed a legal brief with the state’s utilities board concerning CO2 pipelines.

The brief concludes that Summit Carbon Solutions’ CO2 pipeline does not promote the public convenience and necessity.

Woodbury County LEC substantial completion delayed slightly

On Tuesday night, the county’s board of supervisors let the public know about the 91-page brief. It details the reasons why the seven counties believe the permit should be denied, but if granted, they will oppose the use of eminent domain.

“I believe this brief represents Woodbury County’s comprehensive plan, our resolutions, our stances aboard against eminent domain for private projects,” chairman Matthew Ung said. “It says that this is not a project that promotes the public necessity at all, this is something else.”

The state’s utilities board has not yet released their decision on Summit Carbon Solutions’ permit application.
