FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is working to learn why a pregnant, purebred Collie was stolen the day she was supposed to have puppies.

The dog’s owner, Downey Maynard, is looking to the public for help and she searches for answers.
“I can’t eat, I can’t sleep, I’ve just got to get her back. I miss her so much,” she said. “It’s just making me sick. It really is.”
Gabi – a pregnant, 4-year-old sable and white Collie – was supposed to have puppies on April 14, according to Maynard.
“This was going to be her last litter,” she explained.
The same day, Gabi was reported stolen from Turnbull Road, just southeast of Fayetteville.
“It’s not like they could say ‘I’m going to rescue a stray on the highway.’ They could tell from the get-go she was shampooed, groomed,” she said.”

Maynard, who lives in Nash County, said Gabi was visiting a friend and trainer’s house at the time. One month later, she’s still looking for answers.
“I really truly feel like they’re close by because it’s a country road that doesn’t have a lot of traffic at all,” she said. “Anybody that’s going to be on that road probably lives in the area.”
Reward offered
Maynard is offering a $2,000 reward – no questions asked – for Gabi’s return.
“Please keep a lookout for Collies. Any Collie. And a Collie puppy for that matter,” she said.
She told CBS 17 she considers her dogs her family and is holding onto hope that they can be reunited.
“I’m going to keep going,” she said. “I’m never going to give up.”
Maynard also set up a GoFundMe to hire a private investigator who specializes in finding lost pets. You can find the page here .
