    Restaurant inspections: Barbecue joint must get rid of flies, dead or alive

    The Georgia Department of Public Health, Environmental Health Section, conducts regular restaurant inspections to help keep residents and visitors safe.

    The following is a list of restaurants in Richmond and Columbia counties that have been inspected between May 10 and 16, accompanied by their scores and, in some cases, the health infractions that lowered those scores.

    Disclaimer: On any given day, an establishment may have fewer or more violations than noted in their most recent inspection. An inspection conducted on any given day may not be representative of the overall, long-term conditions at the establishment. A few more recent, follow-up inspections may not be included here.

    "Observed missing floor tiles near mop sink. Replace floor tiles."

    "Observed dead flies on premises. Determine a method for deterring flies."

    Inspector's comments: "Observed male employee walk in back door and immediately begin food preparation without washing hands. Wash hands prior to any food preparation."

    "Observed female employee preparing food (sprouts) for immediate service, come in bare hand contact with food on plate wiping ungloved hands on stained apron between preparing several plates. Utilize gloves when handling ready to eat food."

    "Observed dirty brooms stored in mop sink. Do not store brooms in mop sink. Hang brooms properly."

    "Observed scoop stored in salt container located across from 3-compartment sink. Repeat violation. Store scoops outside of food product itself."

    "Observed female employee wash hands with gloves on. Corrected on-site. Discard used gloves and wash hands prior to putting on new gloves."

    Quality Inn & Suites, 2176 Gordon Hwy.: 85

    Inspector's comments: "No certified food manager for establishment."

    "The person in charge could not provide documentation, or otherwise satisfactorily demonstrate during the inspection, that all food employees and conditional employees are informed of their responsibility to report to management information about their health and activities as it relates to diseases that are transmissible through food."

    "Provide soap and single use towels at hand sinks."

    "Establishment does not have established procedures for employees to follow when responding to vomiting or diarrheal events that involve the discharge of vomitus or fecal matter onto surfaces in the food establishment."

    "Sanitizer not available at dish wash station. Person in charge described procedure without sanitizing step. Located bleach as sanitizer, moved to sink. Advised on procedure."

    "Food products that are held for credit, redemption, or return purposes to the distributor such as damaged, spoiled, or recalled products were not segregated and held in a designated area that is separated from food, equipment, utensils, linens, and single service and single use articles: milk dated April 4, April 9 present in refrigerators. Was separated, not labeled."
