    URI, Bryant University hold 2024 commencement ceremonies

    EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Multiple colleges in Rhode Island held commencement ceremonies on Saturday.

    Saturday was day two of a weekend of commencement ceremonies for the University of Rhode Island (URI), which started on Friday.

    Students from the Colleges of Nursing, Engineering, and the Arts and Sciences received their diplomas at the university’s Ryan Center. According to URI, they will have conferred over 4,700 degrees by the end of the weekend.

    Gov. Dan McKee delivered a speech, congratulating the URI graduates.

    Viola Davis, an actress and Rhode Island native, and author Deborah Goodrich Royce received honorary degrees from the college.

    URI’s final day of commencement ceremonies will be on Sunday, May 19. These are the schools that will see graduates walking the stage:

    • The College of Health Sciences, which will take place at 9 a.m.
    • The Alan Shawn Feinstein College of Education, which will take place at 2 p.m.
    • The College of the Environment and Life Sciences and Graduate School of Oceanography, which will take place at 5 p.m.

    Bryant University also had a commencement ceremony on Saturday. Their event saw over 1,000 graduates walk the stage.

    This was the last day of ceremonies for Bryant. Bryant’s commencement festivities began on Thursday.

    Providence College and Salve Regina University also have ceremonies scheduled for Sunday.
