(WKBN) — The Columbiana County Humane Society is asking for help after a Thursday seizure of animals pushed shelter capacity.

A humane agent along with a shelter manager went out Thursday with a search warrant to a home where animals were reportedly living in deplorable conditions. In images published by the shelter, you can see heaps of garbage outside and inside the residence from which the animals were removed.

Two dogs and three cats were removed from the home where trash covered the floor, litter boxes were filled with feces and a dog’s nails were so overgrown it was forced to walk on them.

The society said the animals are in the care of veterinarians and one of the dogs is receiving emergency medical care. It also reports that charges are pending.

The shelter is asking for donations. It is also looking for foster families to help clear animals out of the shelter, which is “beyond full.”
