WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Israel security assistance support act Thursday.

The Republican bill was put up in response to the Biden administration’s pause on a bomb transfer to Israel.

The bill prevents President Biden from withholding weapons transfers to Israel, the majority of Democrats and a handful of Republicans voted no but with 16 Democrats voting for it, House Republicans were able to pass the bill.

“You are either with Israel, or you are not,” said House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.).

Johnson was a champion of the bill.

“The Biden administration is defying the will of Congress and withholding weapons shipments to Israel,” he said.

The bill would prevent Biden from withholding weapons transfers to Israel.

Texas Republican Congressman Michael McCaul said the president has no right to punish Israel for how it uses its weapons in its war against Hamas.

“His administration is more concerned about a small vocal wing of activists than the ironclad commitment that they talked about to stand by Israel,” McCaul said.

New York Democratic Congressman Gregory Meeks opposed the bill and said the U.S. must protect innocent lives.

“The United States has a duty, an obligation, under law to make sure our weapons are not disproportionately killing civilians,” Meeks said.

The measure is unlikely to go anywhere in the Democratic-controlled Senate.
