WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – House Republicans will vote to force the president to continue weapons shipments to Israel. It comes after President Biden held up one shipment, and threatened to hold more if Israel invades the Gazan city of Rafah where thousands of refugees are sheltered from the war.

Many Democrats are calling this a political stunt that does more harm than good, but Republicans say this is necessary.

“You are either with Israel, or you are not,” said House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.).

House Speaker Mike Johnson criticized President Biden’s decision to pause a shipment of more than 3000 bombs to Israel.

“This is a catastrophic decision with global implications,” said Johnson.

Texas Republican Congressman Michael McCaul said the president has no right to punish Israel for how it uses its weapons in its war against Hamas.

“His administration is more concerned about a small vocal wing of activists than the ironclad commitment that they talked about to stand by Israel,” said McCaul.

However, New York Democratic Congressman Gregory Meeks pushed back against the GOP claims. He says the president is trying to save innocent lives.

“The United States has a duty, an obligation, under law to make sure our weapons are not disproportionately killing civilians,” said Meeks.

Even Florida Democratic Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz who criticized Biden for the hold said this bill was a terrible idea.

“This dangerous, cynical bill is not pro-America or pro-Israel,” said Wasserman-Schultz.

Louisiana Republican Congressman Steve Scalise is positive this bill will gain more support.

“The public pressure will grow so large that Chuck Schumer will have to take this bill up,” said Scalise.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer says, “It’s not going anywhere.”

The White House already said the president would veto the bill if it made it to his desk.
