The Congressional App Challenge is now open for students in Virginia’s First District, which includes Henrico’s western half.

The nationwide competition allows middle and high school students to create and exhibit their software applications for mobile, tablet or desktop devices. The competition is open to students who are in middle or high school in public, private, charter, and home schools at the time of their applications.

The winning students’ apps will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol and featured on the U.S. House of Representatives website. Winners also will be invited to attend the #HouseofCode Capitol Hill Reception in Washington D.C. The deadline to enter is Oct. 24.

Students must reside in or attend school in the First District and may compete individually or as part of a team of up to four students, with at least half of the teammates residing or attending school in the First District.

All entries must be original, in concept, design, and execution.
