Letter: We have lost our way

    By Bobby Burns,

I'll never forget the day I pulled my stuff out for a yard sale hoping to make enough to eat. As many church worshippers filed out in their nice cars across the street, most all knowing my struggle, not one came over. It's typical of what the world has become.

The funny thing is there are hundreds of churches, way too many. And they keep building more. How about taking the tons of money wasted and save suffering animals and people. Jesus would applaud. And I'm not just picking on church worshippers who seem to be getting their weekly hour of pew time to feel holier than thou.

It's yard worshippers, too, thousands on zero-turn mowers to spend enormous amounts of time and money landscaping and mowing 2-inch grass back down to 1-inch, all in the name of a pretty yard. Meanwhile suffering abounds.

I met a couple of guys with new ATVs on a trailer up at the store I walk to with my art. They said there is about $30,000 on the trailer. Meanwhile, the man who walks, picks up trash, saves dogs and cats and creates art to sell to eat is right there broke and suffering.

Then you have mega money daily spent on booze, drugs and high-dollar scratchoffs. I pick up stacks from the trash of $20, $30 and even $50 scratchoffs amazed at the money these people have and that they can walk by me and my art and not spend a penny. We have lost our way.

I give all the time, be it free art to children, vets or to brighten someone's day. Some days I have enough to help folks who need gas or food. Just imagine a world if we changed our priorities and looked after who and what really matters.
