Pike County’s Friendship Community is just what its name says. It is a community where friendship abounds.

In celebration of the community spirit that is a way of life for longtime residents and newcomers, alike, a group of friends planned and held the first Friendship Community Cookout on Saturday, May 11.

“This was a unique, spontaneous idea of just having a reason to celebrate life,” said Lisa Brown, one among the planners of the event. “The community has seen so many of the residents become sick, shut-in, and even pass away in recent years. Never had there been a time that everyone actually came together for just fun or to give support without sympathy or empathy.”

The Friendship Community Cookout was free to residents, families and friends associated with the community,

Brown talked with many who gathered at “Friendship” and found that the donations and support for the community cookout was “astounding.”

“Guests came from as far as Baltimore, Maryland,” Brown said. “I took pictures as a reminder of the friendship that abounds at Friendship.

“I would advise people in different communities, to get to know your neighbors and you will find out there are some amazing people next door to you. I also encourage everyone to have fun, laugh more and live a life that’s pleasing to God.
