CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – During an evening of multiple incumbent upsets, Senator Patricia Rucker managed to hold on to her seat representing the 16th district in a close race.

Rucker narrowly claimed victory over challenger and current House of Delegates member Paul Espinosa, who trailed by less than one hundred votes when the race was called.

“Grateful to have been successful in tonight’s primary. On to the General Election!,” the state senator said in the wake of the win. “Thank you to all who helped make this victory possible!”

The victory will see Rucker facing off against Democrat John Doyle in the November General Election.

John Doyle secured the Democratic nomination to represent the 16 District in the state senate following an unopposed campaign.

District 16 comprises Jefferson County and portions of Berkeley County.
