Meet the T&G Hometeam high school girls' hockey Super Team for winter 2023-24

The Central Mass. High School Sports Awards is proud to announce the player of the year nominees for girls' hockey. The winners will be announced during the live show on Wednesday, June 26, at the Hanover Theatre. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the show begins promptly at 7.

This award is sponsored by New England Sports Center.

During the live show, athletes of the year in 31 sports will be honored. In addition, top teams, coaches and overall athletes will be honored as will a Courage Award winner. Nominated athletes who RSVP will receive a complimentary ticket to the event thanks to sponsors.

Addison Cagan

Algonquin Regional

Sophomore, Goalie

Cagan stepped in net and stepped up while helping the Titans go 16-7-1 and advance to the Division 2 state semifinals. She posted a 1.79 goals against average and a .925 save percentage while recording seven shutouts, six against teams that qualified for postseason play. Cagan, who was honored with the Titans’ Seventh Player Award and aspires to play at the collegiate level, also contributed to the offense with an assist. Advancing to the state semifinals and being part of a school-record, 10-game winning streak, were Cagan’s most memorable moments of the season. Cagan enjoys walking her dogs and baking when not on the ice. She is the daughter of Geri and Andrew Cagan of Southborough.

Bryn Domolky

Algonquin Regional

Senior, Center

Domolky again offered a helping hand to the Titans’ offense, dishing out 18 assists to finish second in program history with 60 career helpers. This three-time T&G Super Team selection also scored eight goals to finish her career with 92 points, good for seventh in program history, as the Titans went 16-7-1 and advanced to the Division 2 state semifinals. Domolky, an MSHCA senior all-star, received a Legend Award from Algonquin for her myriad and meaningful contributions to the program over her four-year career. Her most memorable moment of the season was a trip to Martha’s Vineyard for a tournament as the team improved its chemistry on and off the ice. Domolky will major in environmental studies and political science at Northeastern University. She is the daughter of Beth and Erik Domolky of Southborough.

Carley Ehwa

Leominster High

Junior, Center

Ehwa, who attends Ayer-Shirley High, scored 10 goals and dished out nine assists to tally a team-high 19 points and help the Blue Devils go 12-9 and advance to the second round of the Division 2 state tournament, after posting their first tournament win in nine years. That 3-1 upset of sixth-seeded Longmeadow by the No. 27 Blue Devils was her most memorable moment of the season and one she’ll forever cherish. Ehwa also plays volleyball and flag football for Ayer-Shirley and lacrosse for the Groton-Dunstable co-op team. Ehwa is a captain in lacrosse and will be an assistant captain in hockey next season, which she’ll enter with 50 career points thanks to a balanced line of 26 goals and 24 assists. She is the daughter of Roma and John Ehwa of Ayer.

Carina Eshbaugh

Leominster High

Freshman, Goalie

This is the first T&G Super Team selection for Eshbaugh, a West Boylston High student who is already a four-year varsity player. She backstopped the Blue Devils to a 12-9 record and the second round of the Division 2 state tournament. Eshbaugh turned aside 59 shots as the 27th-seeded Blue Devils stunned No. 6 Longmeadow to post their first tournament win since 2015. That was her most memorable moment of the season, one that was extra special because the Blue Devils lost two close contests to the Lancers during the regular season. Eshbaugh, a two-time team MVP, posted a 2.32 goals against average and a .916 save percentage. Her hobbies include playing the alto and tenor saxophones and ceramics. She is the daughter of Michelle Sinofsky-Eshbaugh and James Eshbaugh of West Boylston.

Emily Johns

Algonquin Regional

Senior, Left wing

This is the fourth straight T&G Super Team selection for Johns, capping a productive and prolific career in which the Clinton High student finished second in program history in goals (84) and third in points (119). Johns submitted a 20-12–32 line this winter while leading Central Mass. in points as the Titans went 16-7-1 and advanced to the Division 2 state semifinals. She scored seven game-winning goals, including one in the Titans’ quarterfinal victory over Nauset. Johns was an MSHCA senior all-star and presented with a Legend Award from Algonquin for her numerous and significant career contributions. Her most memorable moments of the season were spending time with the team and playing a sport she loves. Johns will continue her hockey career and major in psychology at Worcester State University. She is the daughter of Lynne Johns of Clinton.

Natalie MacCausland

Shrewsbury High

Senior, Forward

MacCausland netted six goals and assisted on 10 strikes to finish second on the team in scoring while helping the defending champion Colonials go 13-5-5 and reach the quarterfinals of the Division 1 state tournament. She displayed her versatility by skating on both wings and productivity by collecting seven points, including four goals, over the final six games. MacCausland’s most memorable moment of the season came in the final game, a 2-1 tournament setback to St. Mary’s, due to the terrific atmosphere created by the large and energized group of supporters who turned out to cheer on the Colonials. MacCausland will major in business at Coastal Carolina University and aspires to one day be a business owner and/or work in some capacity in professional sports. She is the daughter of Kate and Scott MacCausland of Shrewsbury.

Bridget McLaughlin

Shrewsbury High

Senior, Defense

This is McLaughlin’s first T&G Super Team selection in ice hockey after having previously been honored twice in field hockey. She starred on the blue line, helping the Colonials allow just 30 goals while going 13-5-5 and advancing to the Division 1 state quarterfinals. McLaughlin tallied nine goals and nine assists. This two-sport captain was named tournament MVP at the Newburyport Bank Classic. Her most memorable moment of the season was a 2-0 win over Andover, a game in which she scored a late goal to seal the outcome in a contest in which the Colonials displayed determination while playing through adversity. McLaughlin will attend Sacred Heart University, where she’ll continue her field hockey career. She is the daughter of Karin and Jay McLaughlin of Shrewsbury.

Marisa Montoya

Shrewsbury High

Senior, Goalie

Montoya again ws fundamentally sound and consistently spectacular, leading to her fourth straight T&G Super Team selection. She posted a 1.32 goals against average, .939 save percentage and six shutouts as the Colonials went 13-5-5 and advanced to the Division 1 state quarterfinals. Montoya finished with the most wins (57), shutouts (25) and points by a goalie (2) in program history. This captain and team MVP was selected to play in the Massachusetts/Connecticut all-star game. As has been the case throughout Montoya’s career, the time spent with her team on long bus rides to away games were her most memorable moments of the season. Montoya, whose hobbies include reading, is undecided on her college choice, but aspires to ultimately attend law school. She is the daughter of Heather Montoya of Shrewsbury.

Lauren O’Malley

Algonquin Regional

Junior, Defense

O’Malley was a stalwart on the blue line as the Titans allowed one goal or less in 12 games while going 16-7-1 and advancing to the Division 2 state semifinals. A Hudson High student, she contributed offensively with six goals and 14 assists and finished with a plus-8 rating. O’Malley served as an assistant captain this season and will captain the Titans next winter. A multi-sport athlete, she was a T&G honorable mention selection in hockey and softball as a sophomore and also plays varsity soccer. O’Malley, a volunteer youth softball instructor, plans to major in nursing in college. Her most memorable moments of the season were the Titans' program-record, 10-game winning streak and playing in the Final Four. She is the daughter of Allyson and Frank O’Malley of Hudson.

Rachel Simkewicz

Leominster High

Junior, Forward

Simkewicz, who attends Oakmont Regional, was a facilitator and a finisher while helping the Blue Devils go 12-9 and reach the second round of the Division 2 state tournament. This skilled winger potted 10 goals and dished out 17 assists — including four helpers in a pair of games — to finish second in Central Mass. in scoring with 27 points. Her most memorable moment of the season was the 27th-seeded Blue Devils’ 3-1 upset of No. 6 Longmeadow in the state tournament, which delivered the program’s first postseason win in nine years. Simkewicz, who also plays varsity field hockey and lacrosse, aspires to continue her field hockey career in college with the career goal of becoming a physical therapist. She is the daughter of Lauren and Andrew Simkewicz of Westminster.

Paige Umile

Shrewsbury High

Senior, Center

Umile was a constant and productive presence on the ice for the Colonials over the past four seasons, generating 34 points while skating in 82 of a possible 84 games. She scored four goals and notched 10 assists this winter as the Colonials went 13-5-5 and advanced to Division 1 state quarterfinals a year after winning the state championship. Umile, a three-sport captain, also runs cross-country and track. Her most memorable moment of the season came when the Colonials scored twice in the third period to come from behind and defeat Bishop Stang, 2-1, in the tournament opener. Umile is undecided on her college choice but plans to major in biology. She is the daughter of Jennifer and John Umile of Shrewsbury.

Olivia Viens

Auburn High

Senior, Center

This is the second consecutive T&G Super Team selection for Viens, who attends Grafton High. She scored 26 points, evenly distributed between goals and assists, to rank third in Central Mass. in scoring as the Rockets advanced to the Division 2 state tournament. That was the Rockets’ third straight postseason appearance, making it Viens’ most memorable moment of the season. Viens will captain the field hockey — she’s a first-team SWCL all-star — and ice hockey teams as a senior after doing so this year. Off the ice and field, Viens is a member of the National Honor Society, a Bay State Games and MIAA student ambassador, and Family Community Leaders president. She is the daughter of Greta and Dominic Viens of North Grafton.
