Walmart shoppers complain about stores locking up more everyday items

Walmart shoppers who have been unable to purchase underwear at their local stores have expressed frustration over the retailer's anti-theft policies.

A shopper recently posted a picture online from an undisclosed Walmart location showing of rows of undergarments locked behind glass doors.

Hundreds of people have been sharing and commenting on the post on X , where many users revealed that they have left stores because of the practice.

"I don't shop at stores that do this," one person said. "It's degrading to have to ask someone to help me shop."

Another wrote: "They’ve had socks, underwear and a few other items under lock and key for awhile at the one near me. And you can never find an associate to help, so you just give up."

Many retailers have been putting more and more products behind locked doors in an effort to prevent theft. Walmart previously estimated that it loses about a $3billion in stolen goods every year, which equals about one percent of its revenue.

Measures have also been brought it to try to make self-checkouts more efficient . The practices include adding alarms, security cameras and shutting some checkouts.

Target, Lowe's, Walgreens, Duane Reade and CVS have also begun locking up more expensive items behind protective cases. Meanwhile, Sephora, the beauty chain, began the process of locking up some of its items in November.

Many customers have complained that trying to buy a product from behind a protective case can take up to 40 minutes of their time. Products such as toothpaste, baby formula and vitamins have been reported as being locked up in certain stores.
