Tuesday, May 14: A chance to dry out, but wringing out more rain after Wednesday
By Jamie Warriner,
It was a rainy day in the Ozarks yesterday with some spots picking up over two inches of rainfall. The storm that brought us the rain yesterday is currently crossing into Illinois but close enough to bring another batch of showers to the area today. The showers have been brief, but heavy. They’ll quickly fade this evening after sunset as temperatures cool off.
Clouds will thin with temperatures cooling into the 50s. Another round of fog will develop late tonight and it will make for a foggy start for some Wednesday morning.
Most areas stay dry Wednesday with partly sunny skies and afternoon highs in the mid to upper 70s. Winds will be light from the southeast.
Our shot to dry out will be short-lived with scattered showers and thunderstorms spreading in from the west later Wednesday night continuing into Thursday. Like Monday, there will be a limited risk of severe weather, mainly for hail up to quarter size and gusty thunderstorm winds.
The dip in the jet that’s bringing stormy weather Thursday will continue to generate a risk for scattered showers and thunderstorms Friday.
Rain chances dwindle by Friday night and this weekend should be mostly dry and mostly sunny. The mornings look comfortably cool with afternoon highs in the low to mid-80s.
Storm chances will try to work back in early next week, but a “cap” may hold that risk off until Tuesday. The remainder of next week could be active at times with multiple days with thunderstorm chances and the possibility of severe weather.
