Onamia High School assistant principal Karn Dols gave activities director Austin Hackett’s report to the school board at the April meeting, reporting the speech team won their 3rd consecutive Great River Championship, which was held at Onamia high school.

Izzy Cerrillo placed 3rd in Extemporaneous Reading at Sections which qualified her for the State Tournament. “Izzy made it to the final round at the State Tournament and ended up placing 8th overall in the State, so that was awesome. Congratulations Izzy.”

The golf team has record numbers this season. “We are sitting strong with 20 male participants and 4 female participants.” Their tournament season is just getting started, “But the coaches think we might have a decent varsity team this year.”

The softball teams are sitting close to 40 participants this spring “which is great to see.” The high numbers have allowed the Raiders to have a varsity, junior varsity, 8th grade and a 7th grade team this season. “It has been a wet spring this year, but we are getting games whenever we can.”

The baseball teams are also close to 40 participants this spring which is allowing for all levels of baseball. They also have a varsity, junior varsity, 8th grade, and 7th grade teams. “Again with such a wet spring we have had to reschedule a few games but when we have played the athletes are having fun.”

The Track team on the other hand is at an all-time low, with only 5 participants from 7-12 grade. “The track season has been off to a slow start as well due to the weather. Their schedule will pick up next week.”

In the music department, Dols said the 9-12 grade band and choir students gave an outstanding showing on April 21, at Section 5A solo and small ensemble contest in Hinckley. “They had a phenomenal day.”

Onamia High School entered 16 events (the most of any school in their conference). Of those 16 events, 14 received superior ratings (the highest rating possible) and 2 received excellent ratings.

Earning excellent ratings for their performances were Lexi Stump (clarinet solo), Jayden Nelson and Lexie Stump (tenor sax and clarinet duet.) Earning superior ratings for us were: The Raider Jazz Ensemble - with an exceptional score of 39/40. Isabelle Bolduc, Jayenissa Mitchell, and Jayden Nelson (saxophone trio).

Chase Calander, Jamie Voshell, Matthew Larson, Ryan Smith, and Tony Mitchell (percussion ensemble), Arianna Cash-Hemann and June Schleis (flute/clarinet duet), Bee Oyler (euphonium solo), Isabella Cerrillo (xylophone solo), Brooklyn Orazen (mezzo soprano solo), Arianna Cash-Hemann (flute solo), Layne Nelson (flute solo), Brooklyn Orazem (tenor sax solo), June Schleis (clarinet solo), Aria Mueller (alto sax solo), Isabelle Bolduc (tenor sax solo) and Jayenissa Mitchell (alto sax solo. Congratulations and quite a showing for the musical Raiders.
