LAFAYETTE, Ind.— The Tippecanoe County Council at-large primary election saw the nomination of three Republican incumbents, with three fresh Democrats moving forward into the fall for the general election.

Tippecanoe County Councilman Kevin Underwood took the lead in the Republican primary with 25.32% of the vote, while fellow county council incumbents Barry Richard and John Basham claimed the other two party nominations at 21.80% and 21.71% respectively. Republican challengers Paige Britton and Dan Dunten trailed behind, garnering 18.32% and 12.85% of the vote respectively.

For the Democrats in the county council at-large race, Katy O'Malley Bunder, Ben Carson and Amanda Eldridge came out on top with 24.75%, 24.37% and 19.79% of the vote respectively. Fellow Democratic challengers Wendy Starr and Joe Mackey fell short of a nomination, filing in at 16.34% and 14.75% respectively.

Underwood said the results of Tuesday's primary left him feeling very good, noting there is still much work to be done for the county.

"I'm looking forward to continuing to be strong for Tippecanoe County," Underwood said. "As I've said for the last couple of terms, just continue to bring a sound, common-sense business approach to county government — just working on prioritizing those spending issues that really need to be done for the county."

Bunder said prior to the election results, she felt she hadn't done enough to get her name out in front of voters.

"I feel like maybe the experience that I have is what lead people to vote for me, and I hope they'll continue to support me in the general election," Bunder said.
