    PHOTO GALLERY: Hawkins produces 23 state qualifiers

    CHURCH HILL — Twenty-three middle school athletes from Hawkins County qualified for the TMSAA State Track and Field Championships with top four finishes in their respective events at sectional meets this week.

    The Rogersville City School track and field program produced runnerup finishes in the boys’ and girls’ team standings at the TMSAA Northeast Class A (Small Schools) Sectional on Friday, May 3, at Volunteer High School.

    Jonesborough won the girls’ title with 103 points. RCS was second (78) and Pigeon Forge Junior High third (42.50). Surgoinsville finished seventh and RMS 10th in the 17-team event. Pigeon Forge won the boys’ title with 81 points. RCS was second (62) and South Greene third (55). RMS finished ninth in the 15-team field.

    For the RCS Warriors, the meet produced over 40 personal records (PRs) and numerous medalists with 13 athletes qualifying for the TMSAA Class A State Championships on Saturday, May 18, at Austin Peay University’s Fortera Stadium in Clarksville.

    “We are extremely proud of every single athlete that contributed to RCST&F. It takes a team effort to garner results, as shown in the 42 PRs set last night,” said RCS coach Kelley Russell.

    Six athletes from Rogersville Middle School and two from Surgoinsville also punched their tickets to the Class A state meet. Those athletes will be joined in Clarksville by two from Church Hill Middle School, who qualified for the Class AA State Championships.

    State qualifiers from RCS are:

    Emma Stipes, who won the shot put with a throw of 34-1.25 and discus with a PR of 95.8.Lilla Harrell, who won the 800 with a PR of 2:36.05.Karlie Gray, Harlen Hayes, Anna Mae Boyd and Rylee Sivert, who won the 4x200 relay with a PR of 1:56.76.Rylee Sivert, Anna Mae Boyd, Lilla Harrell and Kenady Deal, who won the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:36.61Brayden Brown, who won the 1600 with a PR of 5:13.12 and finished second in the 800 with another PR of 2:16.53.Zander Harris, who won the 800 with a PR of 2:16.53Evan Laster, Zander Harris, Chance Pearson and Brayden Brown, who won the 4x400 relay with a PR of 4:00.14.Rylee Sivert, who finished second in the 400 with a PR of 1:04.53.Aaron MunseyCooke, who finished second in discus with PR of 108-6 and third in shot put with a throw of 37-3.25.Elin Bryan, who finished fourth in the 1600 with a time of 6:08.15.Evan Laster, who finished fourth in discus with a PR of 993 and fourth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 17.76.

    State qualifiers from RMS are:

    Riley Elkins, who finished second in shot put with a throw of 40-5 and third in discus with a throw of 105-4. Travis Wade, who finished third in the 1600 with a time of 5:13.78.Jessabella Allen, who finished third in the 800 with a time of 2:47.79.Riley Elkins, William Ely, Landon Rimer and Justin Bradley, who finished third in the 4x100 relay with a time of 51.30.

    State qualifiers from SMS are:

    Chloe Fritts, who finished second in the 100 with a time of 13.18 and second in the 200 with a time of 28.76.Gracie Christian, who finished third in the 1600 with a time of 6:00.91.

    CLASS AA

    Two athletes from Church Hill Middle School finished in the top four in their respective events at Saturday’s Class AA Section 1 meet in Johnson City to qualify for the TMSAA Class AA State Championships, which will also be held May 18 in Clarksville.

    State qualifiers from CHMS are:

    Bryson Christian, who swept the 100- and 200-meter dashes with times of 11.65 and 23.87, respectively, to earn a spot in both races at the state meet.

    Kylee Capson, who finished fourth in long jump with a leap of 1404.50.
