Teachers can get free CPR training in Knox County

KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Knox County Health Department is offering free CPR training for teachers.

The effort is part of the Health First Indiana program and paid for by grant funding from the State Health Department.

The training shows teachers how to perform CPR on children, infants, and adults. It also instructs them on how to utilize an AED.

The American Red Cross describes an AED as follows;

An AED, or automated external defibrillator, is used to help those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. It’s a sophisticated, yet easy-to-use, medical device that can analyze the heart’s rhythm and, if necessary, deliver an electrical shock, or defibrillation, to help the heart re-establish an effective rhythm.

The health department recently held a training session at Good Samaritan Hospital for 48 teachers and hopes to continue this effort.

“We only hope to grow it even larger,” Registered Nurse Audrey Harper said. “We hope to get more people to sign up. We hope to get more people certified because awareness is the key and the more people that we can get certified, the more lives that we will hopefully save.”
