The two became involved in a verbal altercation, and the victim allegedly asked Wooten to leave him alone. Police say Wooten instead picked up a brick and struck the man in the left eye.

The victim was transported to Regional One Hospital in non-critical condition, with severe lacerations to his eye.

Reports say Wooten arrived back on the scene and began to run from police. He was eventually detained.

Wooten allegedly told police that he had nothing to do with the victim’s injuries, but the victim identified Wooten as the man who struck him in the face with a brick.

According to court documents, Wooten has nine previous felony convictions. The most serious convictions of the nine are criminal attempt second-degree murder, statutory rape, and aggravated assault.

Wooten is charged with aggravated assault and violation of sex offender registry act. He is being held on a $9,500 bond and is set to appear in court on Tuesday.

Police have said that Wooten’s actions and history demonstrate that he is a danger to the community.
