Kansas gov. honors the state’s top high school students

TOPEKA ( KSNT ) – High school students from across the Sunflower State were honored for their hard work in the Capital City Sunday.

Gov. Laura Kelly recognized this year’s recipients of the 41st annual Scholars Award program. Only the top 1% of high school students in Kansas qualify for this award which is based on the classes they choose to take and the grades they earn.

“It tells a lot about the skills these students have,” said Melanie Has, chair of the State Board of Education. “So we talk a lot about social, emotional skills, and what it means to be able to communicate with others, um to have resiliency and a lot of grit and that’s what gets these students here.”

Each student had the opportunity to meet with Kelly as they walked on stage to receive their award. Around 500 students received the award this year. To find the full list of this year’s recipients, click here or check out the document below:
