    Cameron County Sheriff’s Office warns of scam calls

    BROWNSVILLE, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — The Cameron County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about a phone scam.

    CCSO: Man arrested for stabbing brother, woman

    According to the sheriff’s office, the caller is telling people they have failed to report for jury duty and need to pay a fine to avoid legal consequences.

    The sheriff’s office says the caller will also claim you failed to pay your taxes and need to do so over the phone.

    The sheriff’s office reminds the public that the IRS will not reach out via email, text, or social media.

    Authorities advise you to never give personal information over the phone to people you do not know.

    If you receive a call like this hang up the phone, according to the sheriff’s office.
