Palmer Candy recalls multiple confections sold in Kansas over salmonella risk

SIOUX CITY, Iowa ( KCAU ) – Palmer Candy has issued a recall on several “white coated confectionary items” sold in 17 states due to a salmonella risk.
Palmer Candy, based in Sioux City, Iowa, said the potentially affected items could cause a variety of health risks associated with salmonella, including diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal pain. Salmonella can also cause infections in the arteries, among others, and could even lead to death in more susceptible individuals.
The company was notified about the potential risk by the supplier of the liquid coating used for the confections. Production of the affected products has been suspended while the company investigates along with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The recalled items were available for purchase at Walmart, Hy-Vee, Target and Dollar General stores in Alabama, California, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming. They were also distributed internationally.
