    Early Voting Is Underway - Here’s Where And How To Vote

    Cherokee County voters have started casting their ballots in the May 21 general primary elections, and there are two more weeks of early voting before Election Day.

    Whether you’re voting absentee, early voting, or casting your ballot on May 21, the Cherokee Tribune has all the information you need for the election: where and when to vote early and on Election Day, the offices up for election and other items on the ballot, when to vote absentee, how to request and submit an absentee ballot, and how to check your voter registration and/or register to vote.

    When to Vote on Election Day

    The general primary will take place on May 21. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters must bring a photo ID. For more information on ID requirements, visit https://cherokeegavotes.com/id-requirements-2/.

    Where to Vote on Election Day

    Those voting on Election Day must go to their assigned precinct. To find your voting precinct, visit the Georgia My Voter Page at mvp.sos.ga.gov.

    When and Where to Vote Early

    Early voting in Cherokee started April 29 at seven locations.

    Polls are open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday April 29 through May 11, and from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, May 13 through Friday, May 17. Voters must bring a photo ID.

    There will be no voting May 18-May 20.

    Here are the dates and times for early voting in the general primary:

    ♦ Monday, May 6 — Saturday, May 11 from 8:30 a.m to 5 p.m.

    ♦ Monday, May 13 — Friday, May 17 from 8:30 a.m to 7 p.m.

    Here are the locations for early voting:

    ♦ Cherokee County Elections and Voter Registration Office — 193 Lamar Haley Parkway in Canton

    ♦ The Buzz Ahrens Recreation Center — 7345 Cumming Highway near Canton

    ♦ Grace Community Church (Hickory Flat) — 7770 Hickory Flat Highway near Woodstock

    ♦ Ball Ground Public Library — 435 Old Canton Road in Ball Ground

    ♦ Rose Creek Library — 4476 Towne Lake Parkway in Woodstock

    ♦ Oak Grove Fire Station Community Room — 100 Ridge Mill Court near Acworth

    ♦ South Cherokee Annex Recreation Center — 7545 North Main St., Building 200, in Woodstock

    When to Vote Absentee

    The last day to submit an absentee ballot application is May 10. Due to postal delays in the region, the Cherokee Office of Elections and Voter Registration is urging residents to apply for their absentee ballots as soon as possible.

    Completed ballots are due back by close of polls on Election Day (7 p.m. on May 21).

    Register to Vote

    The deadline to register to vote for the Nov. 5 general election, or to change your registration address, is Oct. 7.

    There are several ways to register to vote:

    ♦ In-person at the Cherokee County Elections office, 193 Lamar Haley Parkway, Canton, GA 30114

    ♦ Call Cherokee County Elections at 770-479-0407 to be mailed an application

    ♦ Register to vote when you get your driver’s license

    ♦ Register at any Cherokee County public library; for locations visit https://www.sequoyahregionallibrary.org

    To register to vote in Cherokee County, you must be:

    ♦ A citizen of the United States

    ♦ A legal resident of Georgia and Cherokee County

    ♦ 17 and a half years old, and turn 18 by Election Day

    You cannot register to vote in Georgia if:

    ♦ You are currently serving a sentence for a felony.

    ♦ You have been ruled mentally incompetent by a court.
