Arizona's best water solutions probably should be imperfect and complicated

Morning. In today’s opinions newsletter : Water and growth, the Gilbert Goons and Arizona’s top high schools.

How do we keep growing responsibly in communities that rely on a limited groundwater supply, like Buckeye and Queen Creek?

The loudest voices in this debate so far have been at polar opposites:

Either stop growing completely, or pretend everything is fine and carry on with the status quo.

But as I explain in a column, some folks are trying to find middle ground , and that’s worth understanding, even if their potential solution is complicated and may not end up working for everyone.

If nothing else, it is an attempt to find a compromise — one that allows at least some groundwater-reliant communities to keep growing without sacrificing our water future.

We need more efforts like this.
