Has RI government become too quiet?

    By Will Richmond, Providence Journal,

Good morning, I'm Will Richmond at The Providence Journal and this is the Daily Briefing.

If you were asked what Gov. Dan McKee's primary proposals are or where they stand would you have an answer?

Where some of McKee's predecessors have made big splashes launching and hyping their initiatives, The Journal's Patrick Anderson notes in this week's edition of Political Scene that McKee has taken a slightly quieter route, often using social media as his primary platform to notify the public.

Could it also be a sign of the times as other governmental entities in the state appear to be eschewing the fireworks recently?

    • Voters in the towns making up the Charihol Regional School District will head to the polls on Tuesday to decide if a $150 million bond should be used to build three new elementary schools.

Journal reporter Jonny Williams looks at the arguments between new schools and refurbishing the existing buildings and how some feel misinformation is fueling debate on the proposal.

    • When the 2025 budget submissions came out in early in March, the VA announced it was cutting 10,000 jobs nationwide. While the organization said veterans won't see an adverse effect on care, just what should be expected in Rhode Island?

Journal contributor Frank Lennon raises the question in this week's Veteran's Voice and details the efforts to find answers.

    • A visit to the Rocky Point State Park provides an opportunity to see the remnants of some of the rides, but could it be possible some rides are still in use?

In this week's edition of What and Why, Katie Landeck finds out if the thrill is completely gone or still buzzing around.

    • Who are the top Rhode Island high school softball teams ? What about boys or girls lacrosse ? The Journal's Eric Rueb offers up his latest rankings.

Ahead of Mother’s Day, Mixbook commissioned a survey of 3,000 new moms to uncover just how much these sleep-deprived heroines would hypothetically pay for the golden ticket - a good night's sleep.

The survey revealed that, on average, new moms across Rhode Island would be willing to pay up to a staggering $1,882 for just one night of good sleep.
