Play set in Arkansas nominated for 8 Tony Awards

NEW YORK (KNWA/KFTA) — A play set in the Natural State was nominated for 8 Tony Awards on Tuesday.

“ Appropriate ” was written by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins and is about a family returning to Arkansas to deal with their late patriarch’s estate.

Sarah Paulson plays Toni, the eldest daughter, who hopes the family will spend the weekend reconnecting and remembering their late father.

“But things take a turn when their estranged brother, Franz, appears late one night, and mysterious objects are discovered among the clutter,” Broadway.com describes the plot. “Suddenly, long-hidden secrets and buried resentments can’t be contained, and the family is forced to face the ghosts of their past.”

Here are the nominations for the play :

• Corey Stoll for Best Featured Actor in a Play
• Lila Neugebauer for Best Direction of a Play
• dots for Best Scenic Design of a Play
• Dede Ayite for Best Costume Design of a Play
• Jane Cox for Best Lighting Design of a Play
• Bray Poor and Will Pickens for Best Sound Design of a Play
• Best Revival of a Play

The eight nominations are the fifth-most for a production in this year’s awards. “Hell’s Kitchen” and “Stereophonic” tied for the most nominations at 13.

The Tony Awards are set for June 16.
