WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. (WTNH) – The Connecticut Airport Authority hosted 50 veterans Saturday morning before they took part in Honor Flight Connecticut .
Veterans and their guardians boarded a plane at Bradley International Airport heading to Washington D.C. to visit the memorials and monuments built to honor their service.
“More than just a day of travel, it’s a day of honor,” said Dan Sparks, president of Honor Flight CT.
“It’s the welcome home they never got, it’s the welcome home they’ve long deserved, and it’s just going to be a celebration from start to finish,” he continued.
The group was expected to return to Bradley by 11 p.m.
Veterans are flown on a “first-come, first-served basis” with top priority given to World War II veterans and veterans with terminal illness. Veterans are limited to a single-trip.
