Frida Kahlo was a painter and feminist who is considered one of Mexico’s greatest artists. Born in the summer of 1907, she endured many hardships throughout her life, such as polio, a serious trolley accident, her husband’s cheating , gangrene and depression . Painting helped her heal from these various forms of emotional and physical pain.
In 1922, Frida Kahlo attended the National Preparatory School in Mexico City, in which she was known for being an outspoken and courageous woman. There, she met another famous Mexican artist, Diego Rivera, whom she later married.
The two divorced in 1939, the same year that she created one of her most famous paintings, “The Two Fridas.” Also in 1939, Kahlo visited Paris to showcase her art. While there, she became friends with other famous artists, such as Pablo Picasso. The next year, Kahlo and Rivera remarried.
Unfortunately, Kahlo died at the age of 47, though her fame increased after her death. In 2002, a movie named Frida was released, in which Salma Hayek played the titular role. A documentary also called Frida was released on Amazon Prime Video in March 2024.
Despite all her pain, Kahlo remains an inspirational woman. She leaned on art to get through. Below, check out some of Frida Kahlo's most famous and meaningful quotes on love, life, and healing.
