Running Tigers excel at pre-sectional track meet

The Calhoun School Running Tigers track team captured the “W” at the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 1A sectionals April 26-27. Team members clasped medals individually and as a team in both boys’ and girls’ events.

• Girls’ 4 x100: second place;
• Boys’ 4 x100: third place;
• Girls’ 4 x400: second place;
• Boys’ 4 x400: first place;
• Boys; 4 x 800: third place;
• Jeremy Hardy: long jump, fourth place;
• Layla Oliphant: long jump, fourth place; 100-meter hurdles, fourth place and 300-meter hurdles, fourth place;
• Tygerrick Coleman: high jump, fourth place;
• Keonte Abrams: 400-meter and 800-meter, second place; and
• Layla Gary: 400-meter, second place and 800-meter, fourth place.

The AHSAA released its 2024 Track Championship Meet [performance list for the Running Tigers. The following student athletes will be competing in the Class 1A Outdoor State Championship May 3-4.

• Amaya Hardy: 100-meter dash;
• Layla Gary: 400-meter dash and 800-meter run;
• Keonte Abrams: 400-meter dash and 800-meter run;
• Robert Sellers, Jr.: 1600-meter run;
• Layla Oliphant: 100-meter hurdles, 300-meter hurdles and girls’ long jump;
• Girls’ 4 x 100 meter relay team: Amiyah Hardy, Layla Gary, Adrianna Mason and Samya Sellers;
• Boys’ 4 x100 meter relay team: Jeremy Hardy, Keonte Abrams, Carmelo Brown and Davyon Lewis;
• Girls’ 4 x 400 meter relay team: Adrianna Mason, Rachel Ray, Layla Gary and Katelynn Hardy;
• Boys’ 4 x 400 meter relay team: Jeremy Hardy, Carmelo Brown, Calvin McCall and Keonte Abrams;
• Boys’ 4 x 800 meter relay team Robert Sellers Jr, Joshua Simmons, Kalmaree Spagner, Calvin McCall;
• Kawani McPherson: Girls’ long jump;
• Jeremy Hardy: Boys’ long jump;
• Calvin McCall: Boys’ long jump;
• Tyler Robertson: Boys’ discus and boys’ shot put; and
• Tygerrick Coleman Boys’ high jump.

On April 18, the Calhoun School track team participated in their last meet before the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) Class 1A Sectionals. The Tigers had several Top-8 performances in multiple categories in the pre-sectional meet hosted by T.R. Miller High School in Brewton.

High-ranking achievements for the Running Tigers include:

• TyGerrick Coleman – 1st Place in the high jump;
• Layla Oliphant – 4th Place in the 100-meter hurdles;
• Jeremy Hardy – 8th Place 100-meter dash;
• Girls grabbed 8th Place in the 4×100-meter relay;
• Boys clinched 4th Place in the 4 x 100-meter relay;
• Keonte Abrams – 8th Place in the 200-meter run
• Girls’ came in 4th Place in the 4 x 400-meter run;
• Boys won 3rd Place in the 4 x 400 3rd;
• Robert Sellers Jr  – 5th Place 3200-meter run;
• Jeremy Hardy – 8th Place in the boys’ long jump; and
• Tyler Robertson – 3rd Place in the high jump.

The team traveled to Cullman May 3 for finals hosted by Cullman High School located at 13th Street Northeast.
