ROCKINGHAM — A man with pending charges in three counties is facing drug charges after reportedly being pulled for speeding.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, deputies conducted a traffic stop May 2 on a vehicle clocked at 54 mph in a 35 mph zone on Airport Road.

The driver, 45-year-old Bryan Anthony Hinson, reportedly refused to open his clinched fist and reached into the back seat. That’s when he was removed from the vehicle.

(Note: State prison records list Hinson’s age as 44.)

During a search, deputies reportedly found crack cocaine, a glass pipe and copper wire used as a filter.

Hinson was arrested and charged with felony possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of resisting a public officer. He was booked into the Richmond County Jail on a $10,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court May 16.

There doesn’t appear to be a citation for speeding.

Online court records show Hinson already has several pending charges in Richmond County: second-degree trespassing; resisting a public officer; and an out-of-county probation violation.

Court records show Hinson also has charges pending in other counties:

Moore: misdemeanor larceny, attempted larceny and second-degree trespassing (2022); and possession of drug paraphernalia (2024)

    Scotland: driving while license revoked

Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Hinson’s only prior conviction was Feb. 23 for misdemeanor larceny in Union County.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
