Dawson County fatal crash, one dead and another seriously injured

DAWSON COUNTY, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- The Texas Department of Public Safety reported a fatal crash in Dawson County that left one dead and one seriously injured.

The Texas DPS report showed that on Thursday, May 3rd, around 3:00 p.m. on US 87 & County Road, driver John Villalobos was traveling east on County Road, when he failed to yield to the right-of-way intersection stop sign, causing Villalobos to collide with 89-year-old Rex Zant from Lamesa, who was traveling on US 87.

DPS reported that Rex was transported to Medical Arts Hospital in Lamesa and was later pronounced dead, and Villalobos was transported to UMC Hospital in Lubbock with serious injuries.

The Texas Department of Public Safety stated that the crash remains under investigation and that no further information is available.
