Nutz-n-Boltz to present dark comedy that says what we're all thinking

What are adults sometimes but just big kids?

That is certainly true in Nutz-n-Boltz Theater Company’s upcoming show of Yasmina Reza’s “God of Carnage.” After their two 11-year-old sons have a tiff that ends with one son losing two teeth, two sets of parents meet up to find a resolution.

In a darkly comedic way, instead of finding resolution the parents slowly degenerate into childish behaviors, breaking out into their own conflict.

“Adults just have more societal pressure on them to behave,” said theater company co-founder Kelly Lazenby, who is also acting in the show.

The show does include some stronger language that parents may find inappropriate for children, so discretion is advised.

“This was a bucket list play for me,” said Lazenby. “This is kind of one of those plays where they are all saying the things you usually only think in your head. It’s very bold. It’s like looking at the car wreck when we know we’re not supposed to.”

That said, Lazenby added, it is still funny, and very well written.

The show runs 85 minutes without intermission.

“I hope it’ll be fun for the audience and they’ll be hanging on the edge of their seat,” Lazenby said.

“God of Carnage” runs from May 17 through June 2, with shows at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. matinees on Sundays.

Tickets can be purchased at the door or online at nnbtheater.com/theater.
