MASON COUNTY, WV (WOWK) — The Mason County Development Authority, the agency that works to encourage economic development in the county, is being investigated.

John Musgrave, executive director at the agency, confirmed to 13 News Reporter Jordan Mead that investigators came to their office a few days ago and executed a search warrant looking for documents and computers.

Musgrave said his office is trying to promote growth in the county through a variety of projects, such as Nucor Steel. He said concerns from residents not in favor of the projects led to the search, but he couldn’t get into any specifics.

Musgrave’s statement said in part, “Because of these factors, we have had FOIA’s requested and continue to work and supply the information that is requested. We are proud of what we have accomplished in Mason County.”

According to the West Virginia State Police, the Cabell County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office is acting as a special prosecutor in this case. 13 News has reached out to the office and they said they could not comment on an ongoing investigation.

At this time, 13 News does not know what possible wrongdoing led investigators to apply for search warrants in the first place. This is a developing story. We will continue to update you as more information becomes available.
