PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — Dozens of sharks swarmed two fishermen and their boat off Caladesi Island on Thursday morning.

The drone video, captured by WFLA viewer John Yanchoris, shows the massive shark activity near the shoreline at just 9 a.m.

Yanchoris said he usually spots the groups of sharks between 7 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.

In the video posted to YouTube , one user said the increased presence of sharks may explain why more dolphins have been spotted near the shoreline as well. They said two dolphins swam nearby, with one being followed by their baby.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission , shark season begins in April and goes through October. However, despite their increased presence in Florida waters, shark bites remain extremely rare.
