    Meet the T&G Hometeam high school girls' indoor track Super Team for winter 2023-24

    The Central Mass High School Sports Awards is proud to announce the player of the year nominees for girls' indoor track. The winners will be announced during the live show on Wednesday, June 26, at the Hanover Theatre. Doors open at 6 and the show begins promptly at 7.

    During the live show, athletes of the year in 31 sports will be honored. In addition, top teams, coaches and overall athletes will be honored as will a Courage Award winner. Nominated athletes who RSVP will receive a complimentary ticket to the event thanks to sponsors.

    Georgia Brooks

    Groton-Dunstable Regional

    Senior, 2-Mile

    Fresh off her third T&G Super Team selection in cross-country, Brooks moved indoors and continued to display speed and stamina on the track. She placed fourth in the 2-mile at the MSTCA’s Boston Holiday Challenge and Northeast Invitational before taking second at the Mid-Wach League A/B championships. Brooks, in her most memorable moment of the season, then took top honors at the Division 4 state championships and placed sixth in a personal-record time of 11 minutes, 8.17 seconds at the Meet of Champions. That was an improvement of 12 spots and 29 seconds over last season. Brooks, who also qualified for the Meet of Champions in the mile, will continue her running career and major in biomedical science at UMass Lowell. She is the daughter of Christine and John Brooks of Groton.

    Caroline Collins

    Nashoba Regional

    Senior, 2-Mile

    Collins once again proved she was in it for the long haul. This seven-time T&G Super Team selection who has twice been honored for her efforts on the indoor circuit won both the mile and 2-mile at the Mid-Wach League A/B championships and took top honors in the mile with a school-record time of 5 minutes, 1.8 seconds at the Division 3 state championships. That, along with the Wolves placing second in the team standings, ranked among her most memorable moments of the season. Collins then shifted to the 2-mile at the Meet of Champions, setting another school record while finishing first in 10:59.41. Her times in the 2-mile and mile ranked third and 10th, respectively, in the state this winter. Collins will continue her running career and major in communications at Boston University. She is the daughter of Kristen and Fred Collins of Stow.

    Emily Flagg

    Whitinsville Christian

    Freshman, 2-Mile

    Flagg was selected to the T&G Super Team in the fall following her first varsity season of cross-country. She didn’t break stride while transitioning to the track. The fabulous freshman finished first in the 2-mile at the MSTCA Winter Festival and Dual Valley Conference championships. Flagg then took third at the Division 4 state championships and seventh at the Meet of Champions, where she was one of four underclassmen in the field of 21 and her time of 11 minutes, 14.02 seconds was a personal record. Flagg, who clocked an indoor school record 5:16.55 to place eighth in the freshman mile at the Nike Indoor Nationals, considers her most memorable moments of the season to be spending time with her teammates after racing. She is the daughter of Taryn and Byron Flagg of South Grafton.

    Rahma Giwa

    Wachusett Regional

    Junior, 300, Relays

    This is the third T&G Super Selection in indoor track and fourth overall for Giwa. In the 300-meter run, her highlights included finishing second at the Mid-Wach League A/B championships and Central Mass. Invitational. Giwa then took fourth at the Division 1 state championships and, for the third straight season, sixth at the Meet of Champions. Her top time of 40.48 seconds was a personal record and ranked eighth in the state this winter. Giwa also helped the 1,600-relay team finish first at the Division 1 state championships, Meet of Champions and New Englands. The fab foursome’s best showing of 3 minutes, 56.64 seconds was the fastest in the state this season by a whopping 2.64 seconds and a school record. That ranked among Giwa’s many memorable moments of the season. She is the daughter of Bashiru Giwa of Holden.

    Avery Glidden

    Whitinsville Christian

    Senior, 300

    Glidden competed in seven individual sprint events during the winter. She was at her best in the 300-meter run. A T&G Super Team selection in outdoor track as a junior, Glidden claimed gold medals at the MSTCA’s Winter Festival and Coaches Invitational, Dual Valley Conference championships and Division 4 state championships. She went on to finish fifth at the Meet of Champions and New Englands. Her top time of 39.89 seconds was a school record and ranked third in the state this winter. Glidden’s most memorable moment of the season was spending time and competing with her 3,200-meter relay teammates at the Nike Indoor Nationals in New York. Glidden will continue her running career and major in biology at William & Mary with a career goal of becoming a physician assistant. She is the daughter of Theresa Arpin and Matthew Glidden of Douglas.

    Olivia LaBelle

    Algonquin Regional

    Senior, 55 Hurdles

    A former T&G Super Team selection in gymnastics (and outdoor track), LaBelle moved from the mat, beam and vault to the track this winter and turned in one super showing after another. LaBelle hurdled her way to gold medals at the Mid-Wach League A/B championships, Central Mass. Invitational and Division 2 state championships. She then finished sixth at the Meet of the Champions and, in a school-record time of 8.37 seconds, fourth at the New Englands. That effort ranked seventh in the state this winter. The most memorable moment of the season for this team captain was helping the Titans win their second league title in program history. LaBelle will continue her track career and major in biology at Williams College with a career goal of becoming a physical therapist. She is the daughter of Melissa and Phil LaBelle of Southborough.

    Haley McCormack

    Tantasqua Regional

    Junior, High Jump

    This is the second successive T&G Super Team selection for McCormack in indoor track. She finished first at the MSCTA Winter Festival before going undefeated in the Southern Worcester County League, a run topped by her capturing the league title for the first time. McCormack went on to win the Central Mass. Invitational, place second at the Division 3 state championships and finish 15th in a return trip to the Meet of Champions as one of two Central Mass. competitors in the field of 25. Her top jump of 5 feet, 4 inches tied for eighth in the state this winter. McCormack also competed in multiple other events for the Warriors, including the 55-meter hurdles, which she finished first in at the SWCL championships. She is the daughter of Diana and Shawn McCormack of Sturbridge.

    Nyah Santana

    Wachusett Regional

    Senior 300, Relays

    Santana continued her speedy and successful ways while earning a third straight T&G Super Team selection in indoor track and fifth overall. She finished first in the 300-meter run at the Mid-Wach League A/B championships and Central Mass. Invitational before placing second at the Division 1 state championships, fourth at the Meet of Champions and 13th at the New Englands. Her top time of 40.07 seconds was a personal record and ranked fifth in the state this winter. Santana also propelled the 1,600-meter relay team to gold medals at the Meet of Champions and New Englands. Her most memorable moments of the season were competing in three relays at the New Balance Nationals Indoor. Santana will continue her running career and major in kinesiology at the University of Rhode Island. She is the daughter of Nyoka and Wilfredo Santana of Holden.

    Carli Stanford

    Lunenburg High

    Junior, 55, 300

    It was a record-setting and doubly delightful season for Stanford, leading to her first T&G Super Team selection. She placed third in the 55-meter dash and 300 at the Division 5 state championships, where, in one of her most memorable moments of the season, she helped the Blue Knights finish second in the team standings. Stanford qualified for the Meet of Champions in both events, taking eighth in the 300 and advancing to the New Englands for the first time. As for records, she established school marks in the 55 (7.37 seconds), 300 (41.19) and long jump (16 feet, 8 inches) along with the 800 and 1,600 relays. Stanford aspires to continue her track career in college while pursuing a degree in health science. She is the daughter of Christina and Jeff Stanford of Lunenburg.

    Emma Wierenga

    Whitinsville Christian

    Junior, 600

    It was another successful season on the indoor circuit for Wierenga. This four-time T&G Super Team selection (two each in cross-country and indoor track) was a repeat winner in the 600-meter run at the Dual Valley Conference championships. Wierenga went on to finish fifth at the Division 4 state championships and earn a spot in the field of 22 for the second straight year in the Meet of Champions, where she placed 10th. Wierenga’s top time of 1 minute, 37.64 seconds broke the 11-year-old school record and ranked 15th in the state this winter. She also helped the 3,200-relay team finish 11th at the Meet of Champions and set the school record. Wierenga, whose most memorable moments of the season were providing support to her teammates, aspires to compete in track and study ministry in college. She is the daughter of Alicia and Eric Wierenga of Grafton.

    Naomi Witt

    Wachusett Regional

    Freshman, Mile, Relays

    It was a season filled with individual and group success for Witt, already a two-time T&G Super Team selection thanks to her ability to go the distance. She finished first in the 1,000-meter run at the Central Mass. Invitational before placing fourth in the mile at the Division 1 state championships and 17th overall and fourth among underclassmen in her debut at the Meet of Champions. Witt’s top time of 5 minutes, 9 seconds ranked 22nd in the state and third among underclassmen this winter. She also was a member of the Mountaineers’ 1,600 relay foursome that took gold at the Meet of Champions and, in a school record 3:56.64, the New Englands. Witt’s most memorable moments of the season were her successful showings in the mile at the D1 state meet and the relay at the New Englands. She is the daughter of Susan and Davis Witt of Princeton.

    Isabel Zukowski

    Auburn High

    Sophomore, Shot Put

    The inaugural season of indoor track for this superb sophomore proved to be a resounding success. Zukowski placed third in the shot put at the MSTCA Freshman-Sophomore meet before, in her most memorable moment of the season, finishing atop the podium at the Southern Worcester County League championships to help the Rockets remain undefeated and claim the team title. She went on to place fifth at the Division 4 state championships and qualify for the Meet of Champions as the only Central Mass. athlete and one of just two underclassmen in the field of 23. Zukowski’s top effort of 35 feet, 1.5 inches ranked second in school history and 29th overall and second among underclassmen in the state this winter. Zukowski aspires to become a nurse and an esthetician. She is the daughter of Charalee Zukowski and Henry Montville of Auburn.
