    Get ready for summer reading at the Holmes County library, learn to pot a succulent, too

    Events planned at the Holmes County District Public Library in May include:

    Adventure Begins at Your Library! , Summer Reading Program, June 3-July 20.Reading programs for all ages and chances to win prizes. Registration begins May 28 at the Central Library or East Branch.

    Summer Reading Kick-Off! , Central Library, 4-6 p.m. Friday, May 31. Experience the Leaping Lizards animal show, bounce house, photo booth, face painting and read to a therapy dog. The Holmes County Board of DD and Mental Health and Recovery Board of Wayne and Holmes Counties will provide information and activities.

    Storytimes at the East Branch – 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays May 8, 15 and 22 . Kids ages 2-5, with an adult, are invited to join for stories, songs and rhymes.

    Little Learners Playgroup , Central Library, 11 a.m. Friday, May 10. Kids up to age 5, with an adult, will engage in activities to promote reading and social skills. Snacks provided.

    Little Writers' Workshop, Central Library,  5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday. West Holmes Middle School Power of the Pen will offer an opportunity to learn about writing activities and storytelling for kindergarten-4 th graders. Students are encouraged to take pre-written stories. Call 330-231-6359 for information.

    Author Becca Wierwille, Central Library, 10:30 a.m.-noon, Saturday, May 11. Meet the author and talk about her new book, “Road Trip Rescue."

    Paws to Read, Central Library, 11 a.m.-noon, Saturday, May 11. Kids are invited to read to a certified therapy dog from Caring Therapy Canines.

    Make Your Own Bath Bombs, Central Library, 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 14. Kids middle school age and up will create a bath bomb using a variety of colors and fragrances. Registration required.

    Succulent Workshop, Central Library, 10 a.m. Saturday, May 18. The workshop will cover the basics of potting succulents. Participants will have the opportunity to pot their own plant. Intended for adults and teens. Registration required.

    Kids Craft Night, Central Library, 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 23. Kids in elementary school will have the opportunity to make a squishie, a beaded firefly and a pipe cleaner turtle. Snacks will be provided. Registration required.

    Book Discussion for Adults , 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, Central Library, discussing “Only the Beautiful” by Susan Meissner, and at 6 p.m. –Jitters Coffee House, discussing“Wandering Stars,” by Tommy Orange.
