    The 3rd Annual Freestone County Go Texan BBQ Cook Off was a big success at the W.L. Moody Reunion Fairgrounds on April 26-27.

    It turned out to be a weekend of fun for hundreds that came out to enjoy the weekend.

    When all was said and done, Scotty Bryce of East Texas Smokers was the Grand Champion and Randall Kendrick of Hide-A-Way Ranch Cookers was the Reserve Champion.

    “It was a great weekend, especially since the rain held out. The wind was tricky for the cooks’ teams though,” Jessica Corley- Rieves said. “The live music was a hit as always. The Texas Unlimited Band closed out Saturday night with a great crowd of people. There were lots of vendors. The kids corner volunteer vendors were much appreciated.”

    There were a total of 32 BBQ teams that competed throughout the weekend.

    In the chicken competition, winners were: 1st Scotty Bryce (East Texas Smokers), 2nd - Crystal Ashford (Rough on Sundays - Girls), 3rd - Tim Lemon (YB Legal), 4th - Rita Marczewski (Bet Yur Ash BBQ), 5th - Calvin Gilbert (Cal’s Craft BBQ), 6th - Randall Kendrick (Hide-A-Way Ranch Cookers), 7th - Gary Morrow (All Tucker’d Out), 8th - Chad Whiteside (Cash Money Services), 9th - David Lindquist (No Maintenance), and 10th Josh Wilson (County Line Cookers).

    In the rib competition, winners were: 1st - Scotty Bryce (East Texas Smokers), 2nd - Randall Kendrick (Hide-A-Way Ranch Cookers), 3rd - Syrissa Dominguez (Serious Smoke), 4th - Stephen Granat (No Quarter Que!), 5th - Jamie Robey (Texas Smoke), 6th - Rita Marczewski (Bet Yur Ash BBQ), 7th - Buddy Brooks (BJ’s BBQ), 8th - Calvin Gilbert (Cal’s Craft BBQ), 9th Toni Olenick (Smokin’ Hott), 10th - Spanky Solis (Freestone County Go Texan).

    In the brisket competition, winners were: 1st Blake West (Freestone Co Farm Bureau), 2nd - William Crouch (County Line Cookers), 3rd - Randall Kendrick (Hide-A-Way Ranch Cookers), 4th - Tim Lemon (YB Legal), 5th - Brain Olenick (Burnin’ Money), 6th - Buddy Brooks (BJ’s BBQ), 7th - Toni Olenick (Smokin’ Hott), 8th - Jamie Robey (Texas Smoke), 9th Scotty Bryce (East Texas Smokers), and 10th - Rita Marczewski (Bet Yur Ash BBQ).

    Cook Choice Winners were 1st Crystal Ashford (Rough on Sundays - Girls) and 2nd - Steve Ashford (Rough on Sundays - Guys) Dessert winners were 1st Sandra Bragg/Kallista Chavers (Something Different Restaurant) and 2nd Crystal Ashford (Rough on Sundays - Ladies).

    Salsa winners were Sandra Bragg/Kallista Chavers (Something Different Restaurant) and 2nd Kyle Williams (Smokin’ Aces).

    Breakfast winners were 1st Brett Nichols (Shade Tree Cookers) and 2nd Sandra Bragg/Kallista Chavers (Something Different Restaurant).

    Coleman Walthall and AJ Sandlin won the horseshoes tournament on Friday night out of 13 teams.

    A cornhole tournament was held on Saturday night where 45 teams competed. When all was said and done, Curtis Oldenburg and Mason Thompson came out on top as the Champions.
