    Brown butter Benedict or cold brew martini? 5 Cape Cod restaurants for Mother's Day brunch

    If the recent movie “Bob Marley: One Love” rekindled your mom’s love for steel drums, The Rooftop at Pelham House Resort has a Mother’s Day brunch for you.

    From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays you can choose from a regular a la carte brunch menu that includes brown butter miso Benedict ($22) on a Portuguese bolo, lemon ricotta stuffed French toast ($18) with sliced strawberries or short rib hash ($21) with a slow braise on the meat while enjoying magnificent views of Nantucket Bay. The drums create a relaxed island vibe. Specialty rum cocktails are available. Pelham House is located at 14 Sea St., Dennisport, 508-398-6076.

    Reservations are recommended for The Rooftop at Pelham House and these other restaurants you may want to try for Mother’s Day on May 12.

    Bucatino Restaurant & Wine Bar, North Falmouth

    In Italy, it is customary for meals to unfold over several courses, which is what chef Dan Delancey is offering with this slightly shorter three-course Mother’s Day menu from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on May 12. The meal begins with lump crab cake with sweet potato hay, roasted tomato relish and creme fraiche and ends with vanilla espresso creme brulee.

    There is a choice of mains, or as the menu says in Italian, principales, including halibut with coconut sofrito risotto; Ocean Duo with lobster tail, tempura claw and jumbo sea scallops; speck (Italian ham) wrapped pork fillets; and a Steak Rossini consisting of a 14-ounce NY sirloin with purple potatoes and truffle madeira steak sauce. Prices range from $30 to $48. Add lobster? $18.

    Expect cozy dining in a warmly wood-paneled setting.

    Just BTW, if mom is a fan of beautiful horses at the top of their game, she might enjoy an early present: For Kentucky Derby Day, Bucatino’s is hosting a party from 8-11 p.m. on May 4 with a hat contest, games and appetizers, including lump crab-and-corn fritters ($16).

    Eli's Tavern, Falmouth

    Eli’s Tavern has seating for 90 at honey-colored chairs spaced out with room between them; a little extra space is usually a good thing for family celebrations. The tavern’s website stresses that the mood of its tavern is New England homestyle. Longtime owner William Zammer sold it to Lark Hotels in 2016 after owning it for 21 years.

    You can reserve a table for up to 20.

    Every Saturday and Sunday, Eli’s offers an extensive brunch buffet including eggs, bacon, oven potatoes and lunch dishes as well.

    The Rail, Orleans

    It isn’t often that restaurant owners ask you to carpool, but brothers Tyler and Cam Hadfield know their charming eatery, The Rail, is in a tight spot at 222 Main St. in Orleans. You can book your table online, between 8 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. (they close at 2 p.m.), choosing a four-top or six-top. Call ahead if there are six or more in your party, the website says.

    While The Rail might be physically small, it is putting out some big flavors from both the kitchen and the bar.

    One of the most popular specials is the Apple Croissant with scrambled eggs, applewood smoked bacon, thin sliced apple, sharp white cheddar, grilled croissant and house apple butter ($16). The $12 blueberry pancakes with house lemon curd and house blueberry syrup are a treat.

    The Rail serves a dozen kinds of beer and wine, plus coffee choices, but the one that caught my eye was the cold brew martini — coffee roasted on Cape by Snowy Owl Cold Brew , Tito’s or Jameson with sweet cold foam. You can “buy a round for the kitchen,” an $8 cost that goes to the cooks.

    Chatham Bars Inn , which started as a farm and riding retreat for wealthy Bostonians, earned five stars from Forbes Travel Guide last year. Conde Nast Traveler Readers Choice Awards named it the 8th best hotel in the world and number one on the Cape.

    Chatham Bars is back with its extensive Mother’s Day buffet, which includes seafood, smoked fish, an omelet and waffle station a bread and bagel station, prime rib with lobster and cheeses plus tables full of desserts adding up to a fantasy of fancy foods and a wide choice for adults ($150) and $70 for children 5 to 12.

    State and local taxes are added, as is a 20% gratuity. There are three seatings with slots reserved every 15 minutes, starting at 10:30 a.m. and going through 3 p.m. Reservations are required and cancellation fees are charged on those who don’t notify the inn at least 72 hours in advance.
