    Where do Morris/Sussex boys lacrosse teams rank as tournament play ramps up? Our Top 10

    It's boys lacrosse tournament time!

    The Morris County Tournament was seeded on Tuesday night. There are only four first-round games, which must be played by Saturday.

    Hunterdon/ Warren Sussex will hold its quarterfinals on Saturday at the better seed. That's when top seed Sparta and defending champion and second-seeded Pope John will join the competition, hosting No. 8 Newton and 10th-seeded Delaware Valley, respectively.

    Here's a look at our top 10 rankings as tournament play ramps up.

    10. Roxbury (6-5)

    Last week: No. 10

    Senior Anthony Skawinski has 45 goals, 14 assists and 19 ground balls. The 11th-seeded Gaels open the MCT on the road against Jefferson, a Rizk foe who won, 13-8, on April 19.

    Up next: Tuesday vs. Park Regional at Hanover Park

    9. Pope John (4-5)

    Last week: Unranked

    The Lions are facing tough challenges from their dual NJAC-American and Waterman schedule, losing to Chatham, Mountain Lakes and Delbarton – and most recently 12-5 to Gill St. Bernard's in an independent game on April 24. Pope John begins HWS play hosting 10th-seeded Delaware Valley on Saturday.

    8. Kinnelon (9-1)

    Last week: No. 9

    Undefeated in the Pooley and on a six-game winning streak, Kinnelon remains tied atop the division with Voorhees – the No. 3 HWS seed. The Colts earned the seventh seed in the MCT, and will host No. 10 Madison. Keep an eye on junior long-stick Ben Klinger (3g, 10a, 100gb) and senior midfielder Lex Lucas , who has won 70% of his faceoffs.

    Up next: Monday at Pequannock, Tuesday vs. Madison in MCT

    7. Jefferson (8-2)

    Last week: No. 6

    Senior midfielder Charlie Oberman and sophomore midfielder Matt Leppard have 31 goals apiece for the Falcons, whose six-game winning streak ended at Mahwah, 8-7, on April 30. Jefferson earned the sixth seed in the MCT, and will host No. 11 Roxbury on Tuesday – five days after a visit to Rizk leader Morris Knolls.

    Up next: Thursday at Morris Knolls, Tuesday vs. Roxbury in MCT, Saturday vs. Wayne Valley

    6. Randolph (6-5)

    Last week: No. 7

    Junior Elliot McClendon (24g, 12a, 9gb) and senior Thomas Doto (21g, 4a, 6gb) lead the Rams, whose losses came against Delbarton, Chatham and Mountain Lakes – as well as 10-1 Caldwell and 8-3 Moorestown. Randolph received the fourth seed in the MCT, and awaits a second-round opponent.

    5. Sparta (9-2)

    Last week: No. 5

    Sparta had a nine-game winning streak snapped at Morris Knolls on April 30. The Spartans have more Morris County crossovers scheduled around their HWS debut, hosting eighth-seeded Newton on Saturday.

    4. Morris Knolls (10-1)

    Last week: No. 4

    Senior Jack Martinez (23g, 20a, 28gb) had a hat trick as the Golden Eagles took sole possession of first place in the Rizk by outlasting visiting Sparta, 9-6, on April 30. Five Morris Knolls players have double-digit points, led by senior Kyle Hardie (23g, 24a, 45gb). The fifth-seeded Golden Eagles open MCT play against Montville, who they beat 18-5 in an April 19 Rizk game.

    3. Chatham (5-4)

    Last week: No. 3

    The Cougars have lost three in a row to Fitch-Pitt foes Montclair, Summit and Westfield – but by a total of just five goals. Delbarton, another Fitch-Pitt opponent, is up next. Senior goalkeeper Henry Davenport , a varsity newcomer, and the Chatham defense have allowed just 6.5 goals per game.

    2. Mountain Lakes (6-3)

    Last week: No. 2

    Sophomore Holden Gillespie (17g, 6a) leads Mountain Lakes' balanced offense, scoring 7.6 goals. Senior goalie Andrew Adams has allowed 7.2 goals per game.

    Up next: Saturday vs. Rye (New York)

    1. Delbarton (6-5)

    Last week: No. 1

    Seniors Ryan Trafford , Jack Sartorius and Willie Doyle have 12 goals apiece. Delbarton hasn't had the best luck against out-of-state opponents, losing to St. Anthony's (Melville, New York), Malvern (Pennsylvania) Prep and on Tuesday to Brunswick from Greenwich, Connecticut. The Green Wave hosts Chaminade, another Long Island foe, on Saturday.

    Up next: Thursday at Chatham, Saturday vs. Chaminade (Mineola, N.Y.)

    Also considered: Boonton (7-3), Madison (5-4), Morristown (5-4), Newton (7-3), Parsippany Regional (7-4)
