May Is Military Appreciation Month, and national nonprofit Soldiers’ Angels has set hefty goals for its annual Go Camo care package collection and Honor Military Working Dogs campaigns. After successful campaigns in 2023, Soldiers’ Angels has set a 20,000 pound. goal for Go Camo and 2,000 dog items for MWD.

“We’re excited to provide much-needed support to our deployed service members and Military Working Dogs to ensure they know the American people are thinking of them during these tumultuous times,” Soldiers’ Angels President and CEO Amy Palmer said. “We know our Angels will show their appreciation all month.”

The annual Go Camo Care Package Collection helps Soldiers’ Angels collect the top-requested care package items as well as financial donations to help offset the cost of shipping the care packages. The organization is looking to follow last year’s success with another 20,000-pound campaign. The Go Camo collection is currently open and concludes on June 30. A list of hygiene and personal items, snacks, and downtime items is available on the campaign’s website.

“Our Angels have made Go Camo one of our biggest campaigns since it started in 2020, delivering over one hundred thousand support items to our service members stationed around the globe,” added Palmer.

The MWD collection runs May 5 – 11 during National Pet Week.

“While we realize that Military Working Dogs are not technically pets, we thought this week would be the perfect time to ensure that no military member goes unloved during Military Appreciation Month— even those with four legs and a tail,” said Palmer.

Straight from its dog handlers, the organization is collecting their most-needed Items, including large bowls for food/water, strong toys for power chewers, grooming tools, and poop bags. Due to the strict and specialized nature of Military Working Dogs’ diets, Soldiers’ Angels will not accept or send any dog food or treats overseas.

Details for how to collect items locally, shop and ship, or shop via Amazon Registry are available on the campaigns’ websites here and here.

The organization is also requesting donations to help cover the cost of shipping care packages overseas. It costs about $25 to ship each care package, so every donation counts.
